After the first film, Ronan was out of the country and out of movies, but he still came to the Madison location.
“We were like, ‘We’ve got to do it again,’ ” says the film’s director, Michael G. Wilson.
“He was so much fun to shoot and we just kept going.”
The film stars Sam Claflin, James Franco, Josh Gad, John Gallagher Jr., David Cross, Michelle Monaghan, and Ben Stiller.
The plot is similar to the original film, but the characters don’t all live in Madison anymore.
The movie, which is set to open in theaters on May 20, also stars Tom Hiddleston and Emilia Clarke, and was shot in New York and San Francisco.
Wilson says the new version “really gets into the life of the character,” and that he hopes it will be a great experience for the actors.
“Ronan is a great character, and we hope to bring him back, but I think that he would be a very different character,” Wilson says.
“That’s a big part of our motivation, to make sure he’s not just another villain.”
The movie is the second in a series, following the first, and the first movie was set in Madison.
The first film starred Ben Affleck, Alicia Vikander, Daniel Kaluuya, and J.K. Simmons.
In the second film, which stars Josh Brolin, Amy Adams, and Dina Meyer, Ronin is played by Michael Pitt, and his mother, a character named Molly.
Ronan’s parents, however, are not in the movie.
“The idea was to just let Ronan live out his life, so to speak, as a kind of ghost,” Wilson said.
“But he’s also an important character to the world.
He’s the real deal.”
