WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — UFC on FOX 16: Goulas vs. Stoppard was a UFC debut, but it wasn’t the only fight.
UFC President Dana White announced Saturday night that Josh Stoppart (13-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) and Joe Lauzon (15-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC) will fight for the featherweight championship at UFC Fight Night 55 on Nov. 2.
Stoppart was promoted by Bellator MMA and will face veteran fighter David Branch (19-8 MMA, 9-8 UFC) in the co-main event.
Stoppard, who made his UFC debut at UFC 170 in April, has won three of his last four bouts, including a second-round knockout of Carlos Condit at UFC 171 in December.
Lauzon, who was originally slated to fight Joe Lauz, has lost to Stoppar twice in his UFC career.
He is currently in the midst of a 10-fight win streak.
The card will be headlined by an eight-round UFC heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier (15, 2 NC) and Anthony Johnson (17-4, 3 NC), while the UFC bantamweight title bout between champion Anthony Pettis (13, 4 NC) vs. challenger Michael Bisping (18-7 MMA, 5-5 UFC) takes place in a flyweight bout.UFC Fight Night 56 will air on FOX Sports 1 and pay-per-view following prelims on FOXSports.com.
