On a cold day in the US, the average temperature in a kitchen could be as low as 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit.
At home, it’s closer to 1.0 degrees.
And if you’re at a restaurant, it can be as high as 2.0.
But according to a new study, the process of going from hot and cold in the microwave to internal temperature is much more complicated than the average household.
Read moreRead moreThe researchers looked at how much time it takes to go up and down the range of temperatures in a 20-second burst in a single microwave.
They found that going from a hot, simmering microwave to a cooling microwave takes a total of 4.4 seconds.
This means that it takes the average person roughly 8 seconds to go through the process.
But, on a cold morning in a city with a maximum temperature of -20C, the task could be completed in just 10 seconds.
“The time that it took to go to a hot microwave in this study was very similar to that of other studies, but it’s probably a little bit higher,” said lead author Dr Matthew Fournier from the University of Adelaide in Australia.
The team wanted to investigate the effect of temperature on the production of food.
“What we wanted to know was how much of the time we have to be eating to produce the food that we’re eating,” said Dr Fourniers.
“So we thought that a better measure would be the amount of time it took for the food to get to the point of cooking.”
The team found that it wasn’t all about the time it’s taken to go down and up in the range.
In fact, the team also found that some foods like cereal and pasta were a lot easier to go on the high side of the scale.
“It is difficult to quantify the quality of food, but if it is good quality food, then there should be less time consuming to produce it,” Dr Fourier said.
“But it does suggest that it can take longer to cook foods like pasta and cereals than the other foods.”
In order to measure how long it takes for a food to be cooked, the researchers also took into account how much heat the food was being exposed to.
“If the food has an average internal temperature of about 0.5 degrees Fahrenheit, the microwave should cook it for about 2.5 seconds, but the average internal temperatures of microwaves are around 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit,” Dr Vardanova said.
This is important because the average microwave has a temperature range of about 2 degrees Celsius.
“A microwave oven has a range of temperature which is about 1 degree Celsius.
This makes it a good temperature to cook food at,” she said.
The research was published in the Journal of Food Science.
